Acne is Back

Aug 18, 2007
Something like 25% of people who have acne will have it on their back. Although it's not immediately obvious on your back, it can be painful and can make things like enjoying the summer difficult.

It can affect adults as well as teenagers and can come in the form of spots, pimples, or blackheads - the kind we're all most familiar with. Back acne affects all ages, genders and races, but is most often seen in men.

Back Acne is not caused by heredity and genetic disposition except in severe Conditions. Stress or a poor diet don't seem to cause it either, but long hair is known to aggravate the pores on the back. Back acne is treatable and there are various ways to keep your back blemish-fee.

One thing you can do to help improve the condition is let your skin breathe. That means avoiding very tight-fitting clothing, for example, or wearing clothing with material that breathes also. Artificial fabrics very often cause sweating and that can just make things worse.

For those people who do sweat a lot, either because of the demands of work, or simply because they do, it;s advisable to shower regularly.

In the ebook, Relieving Your Life of Acne, it's claimed that acne on the body is usually thicker and friction from clothing is likely to make it worse. There are literally thousands of oil producing glands in the back and the skin is thicker and tougher than on your face.

Just as you kick into puberty is very often the time the sebaceous glands decide to go into overdrive - as if you haven't enough to contend with at that time!

When you're showering try not to use normal soap because that can have a very drying effect on the skin and that can cause the skin to start producing more oil to compensate - the last thing you want. An anti-bacterial cleanser would be a better idea. And avoid rubbing the skin dry if possible as it can spread any infection and irritate your skin.

For really severe cases of acne, of course, you should consult your doctor. However, when back acne becomes severe, causing cysts and other serious skin damage, it is important to seek out the expertise of a dermatologist or other skin care specialist to prevent possible damage to those areas of the skin.

If you want to exfoliate, choose a mild exfoliant scrub because you don't want to tear the skin and make the acne worse.

Back acne does not seem to be affected too much by changes in diet, but it won't hurt you to eat fresh food, fruit and vegetables. Remember also that the skin is actually an organ of elimination so you don't want to tax your skin even more by eating junk.
