Yoga Clothes: Wear Them Everyday

By Elizabeth Bailey
Oct 20, 2009
There are really no fixed rules as to what kinds of garments you can wear when performing yoga exercises. Since yoga is a non competitive activity and you can do it at home if you would like to, the guidelines are extremely relaxed when it comes to yoga clothes.

However, performing yoga exercises means you have to bend, stretch and twist your body a lot. To realize maximum flexibility of movement, you must wear snug yoga clothes. Good yoga clothes will give you liberty of movement.

Note that tight clothes will pitch your skin and impede your movements. Likewise, tight clothes are terribly uncomfortable when you do stretching exercises. To help you choose the right type of garments, here are some tips...

The Right Fit

Any sorts of clothes won't really look or feel good on you unless they fit right. If your yoga clothes are one size too tiny or too large for you, you won't really feel comfortable in them. To find the right yoga clothes, you need to take some time to try these garments on before you purchase them. When trying on yoga clothes, try and perform some yoga positions and see if you can move openly.

However, if you happen to live in a remote area and you have no choice but to shop online, ensure that you get the perfect size of yoga clothes. You do not really want to end up returning the garments after you receive them. Note that most web stores charge the shipping and handling cost to their clients when they return or exchange merchandise.

Materials

When buying yoga clothes, pay very close attention to the materials used. Yoga clothes that are made of spandex, elastic and light materials are ideal for maximum adaptability. Forget those yoga clothes that are made from cotton. Cotton may feel cool on the skin but after you start sweating, the cotton materials of your garments will become heavy, sticky and uncomfortable.

Moreover, the texture of cotton materials will become coarse and heavy when wet so you can try and imagine the discomfort that cotton will cause you. Note that cotton materials can also chaff your skin.

To attain maximum comfort, buy clothes that are made from sweat absorbent materials. Light and sweat absorbent yoga clothes are perfect for your routine.

Ask friends or your yoga instructor for recommendations as to which brands last the best and are the most comfy and suitable for yoga before you spend too much money on ill-fitting, inappropriate yoga gear.
