What To Know About Prophesy And The Mayan Calendar

By Sheree Foster

Mayan cultures died off many centuries in the past. Many people in the twenty first century know nothing about the culture and what they left for us to study and understand. The cycles of the universe were critical in Mayan societies. Because of their deep understanding they made 22 different calendars to explain their knowledge. Although the calendars recorded time, they also contained other information. The Mayan calendars were also prophesies. Today many people are starting to study these calendars very closely. Prophesy and the Mayan calendar is become a topic of deep discussion, and we will explore the reason this is happening.

The last day on the calendar created by the Mayans is December 21, 2012. This is striking fear in some people and many believe it marks the time of the end of the world. But some people believe it means something else. People who are not shuttering in fear understand the meaning of the prophesies and calendars in a different way.

The deep understanding of the solar system is the first place to look for a deeper meaning to the calendar. One prophesy described the end date to be the beginning of a period of extensive change and evolution around the globe. It describes a time when societies move away from destructive behaviors and move in the direction of harmony and peace instead. 1999 was the time for this process to begin and it was said to last for thirteen years, which is when the calendar ends.

Mayan beliefs explained processes in the universe. These processes are said to be fixed, and the only thing that changes are the attitudes and behaviors of humans who live in these times. If attitudes and behaviors do not change, then it was predicted that a cataclysm could indeed take place during this time of transition. It is up to us in the human race to embrace the changes we need to make in order to avert total disaster.

This way of looking at the last day on the calendar points to positive changes, and not the cataclysmic scenario that some believe. It could be a time of great peace for the world, and the forming of more positive societies. Perhaps all of mankind will finally be able to benefit if the human race decides to move forward in a new direction.

Most people will agree that the prophesies of the Mayans are worth studying even today. One reason is because some point to situations that have come true. In the first prophesy destruction of our natural environment was predicted. That prophesy predicted the exact time in history that global warming became an issue. It is easy to see that the Mayans had knowledge that was well beyond the times of their existence.

Another prophesy called for a time of great change beginning in 1999. This was said to be a time for every human being to examine the details of their lives and make any necessary change that was possible. It was to be a time to move in a new direction and to change our relationships with others, eliminating fear along the way.

Beliefs in prophesy and the Mayan calendar vary from one extreme to another. You will have to decide for yourself what your own belief is. But one thing is certain, Mayan culture is just as relevant today as it was when that passed along their knowledge centuries ago.
