If you want to become successful at Internet Marketing and make serious money online you have to find a way of driving targeted traffic to your website.

This brings me on to Pay Per Click advertising which is one of the most popular Internet Marketing techniques. Here I am going to give a simple breakdown of exactly what Pay Per Click advertising is and some tips to ensure you do not waste your money on it.

A Pay Per Click advertising campaign is where you pay a certain pre-determined amount of money every time someone clicks on your advert that takes them through to your website. There's a number of different types of Pay Per Click adverts but I am going to concentrate on the one most commonly used by Internet Marketers. They are the ads that appear (normally on the right hand side) of search engine results. You will notice these every time you do a Google search.

PPC ad campaigns can be very cost effective, this is because you only pay when your ad is clicked on, this means if you do get your target market horribly wrong it will not cost you an arm and a leg. This is because if you're targeting the wrong people it's not likely they will be interested in clicking on your advert.

However Pay Per Click adverts can be an newbie Internet Marketers nightmare and drain your money, this is because to compete with a large niche such as internet marketing you will have to pay quite a high amount (around 1-2 per click), now there will be lots of people seeing your ad, however if your site is not a high converting one you will quickly end up spending more than you're earning. This is why it's not only the pay per click cost you have to consider but also the conversion rate that has to be considered.

When running PPC adverts you will need to increase the effectiveness of your ads. The best method of doing this is creating a number of different ads and run them alongside each other (split testing). Then you can analyse each site and see which of the two was the highest converting, in future you will want to use the higher converting site.

Here are a number of different elements you can change around to enable you to find out which layout/desgin works best, this gives you a high converting site. Change the headline of your advert and site by making one positive and the other negative. For example; "Make Tonnes Of Money Here For Free" which is a positive headline or use "Don't Be A Sucker And Go Anywhere Else For Internet Marketing Techniques" which is a negative headline. You can also consider changing the layout of your site, changing the style and size of font, length of text, with or without video and picture etc.

After you have found out which ads are the worst converting discard them and stick with the site and advert you know is/are the highest converting. This way your PPC ads will be cost effective as a large percentage of people who click on your ad will opt in and you will build a list and therefore make money online. Keep costs low and profits high...simple.

Another tip to making your PPC ads cost effective is by the use of Keywords. As mentioned before the more popular the keyword/niche you target the more it will cost you. Therefore when you first start out using PPC ads it's a good idea to pick a smaller niche within your market. For example within Internet Marketing Business Opportunities the two most popular keywords "Make Money Online" and "Home Business". A way to find out smaller niches within your industry is to type your keyword "Internet Marketing" into Google Keywords and it will give you other popular keywords that you can target.

A top tip if you are involved with an Internet Marketing business such as YourNetBiz is to choose the name of the top performing marketer as your keyword. Here's an example of how to to do this: Joe Bloggs? No Holds Barred Free Internet Marketing Report, Find out how Joe Bloggs really makes his money.....This can take some of the traffic the leading marketer is generating over to you!

Offering something for free within your ad will also be popular; it doesn't have to be the best product in the world just something that will be of real benefit to the viewer. This could be a free report on Internet Marketing with some helpful tips, this is what I do and it has worked well! The key to using Pay Per Click adverts it to test different ads against each other and find out which are the highest converting.

For an Internet Marketing newbie I suggest using free methods of internet marketing such as social networking before venturing in the world of PPC because you will not have as large a marketing budget. After you have earned money from free advertising you can afford to test multiples of ads to find out which are the highest converting. After you do start using PPC ads effectively though your list can grow very quickly and you can stand to make a lot of money.
