God Will Take Care of You

By Ann Shorb
Oct 30, 2009
I just celebrated my 50th birthday, and as I look back over my life the one thing that is most recognizable is that God has been faithful throughout my whole life. Throughout all of the places I have been and various situations, God has been there. When I was just eight years old I knew that I needed a Savior and I turned my life over to God.

Two years later I felt God speaking to my heart and saying, "Ann, I want you to be a missionary." I did not know what that was really, except that a missionary was someone who told others about Jesus. And at the age of ten I gave my life to Jesus.

All through those teenage years I vacillated a little bit, not knowing exactly where I wanted to go, or what I wanted to study, or what I wanted to be. But I always knew God had His hand on my life and had given me a special purpose. As I went off to college way back in the 70's, I decided to study Elementary Education so that I could prepare to share the Lord Jesus Christ with others in a foreign country.

When I went to college I met a man and fell in love. We both knew that we would be serving in missions after we were married, and we wound up in Africa. Those days were full of adventure and the unknown, which was exciting for us. But it wasn't always positive or fun, things were quite difficult at times.

There were hurts and difficulties. There was a lot of tension politically. God always met every need in every place in ways that seemed impossible. When there was no flour to be had to bake bread, for we had to bake from scratch, He supplied that. When it looked like there would be no salt, somehow it was there when we needed it. When baby clothes were needed for our first child, God sent that too.

After leaving Africa we came back to the U.S. and then headed off to France. Through all of the situations that we have been in and all the challenges that were involved, God has always taken care of us and supplied all of our needs.

When our work in France was completed we came back to the U.S. and was have been in Pennsylvania for more than 20 years. And through those years, just like the ones that preceded them, He has been faithful. He never has left us with an unmet need.

I think of the song that says, "Great is Thy faithfulness, O God, my Father. There is no shadow of turning with Thee. Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not. Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me." So as I celebrated this birthday, I can look back and say, "Great is Thy faithfulness!
