When trying to start your new forum you can become very frustrated and you can end up spending lots of time only to have things not go the way you intended. Do not get disappointed and give up. I am going to give you a few tips on how to start a forum that will make your work a little easier and maybe even a little less frustrating.

The first tip is the important one, be persistent. I can give you many tips, but this one is the most important. Patience will need to be learned if this project is to happen. Do not expect to have your forum running by the next day. It will not happen. You can have a forum for quite a while before you actually get any traffic. The longer your forum is online the more traffic it will get.

The next tip is to pick something you are interested in. You should not start a forum on anything you are not interested in. The more interested you are in the subject, the more content you will be able to produce. If you find what you are writing is interesting you will spend more time on your forum therefore adding more content to it.

Another good tip is to have people you know such as family members or friends who have the same interest join your forum. The more people you know who will leave content on your forum daily the greater your chances or new people looking into your forum. You can not grow a forum without dedicated members.

Once you have a small group of active users, you can try to expand to other friends or even people that your friends may know. Do not spam your URL on other forums and blogs. You need to get at least 40 or more members before you start advertising your site on the internet. You do not want to get over run with people when you are just getting started.

You want the new comers to see a tight community that are friendly and get along well with each other. They will be more likely to come back and to even tell their friends about your forum. Once you have a strong community you can start to share your URL with websites. Post on other blogs and forums and you may pick up a few extra users.

Do not over work yourself when you just start out. If you spend a lot of time posting threads on your site and talking to know one but your self users will see right through that. Do not have a lot of forums with out users either. You do not want all of your forums to be empty, that makes your site look emptier. If you can just get 5 to 10 posts a day on a few forums then you will be starting out good.

You will have to have patience and time to start a forum but if will be worth it. The thing to keep in mind is that it should be fun to start a forum. Make sure your forum is about fun. You want a friendly place for users to have discussions. Keeping your users happy should always be your main goal.
