Do you want your furniture to stand out from the crowd? Well why not try personalizing it. You can use so many different finishes such as wood burning that there is no end to your creativity. If you think that wood burning is something you'd like to try then read below for how to get the look.

You will need a piece of unfinished wood furniture. This can be found in many stores especially furniture stores and certain flat pack stores. Pine is usually the cheapest option if you are on a budget. Then, once you have your furniture you have to get in touch with your creative side. If you can draw then this finish is definitely for you. By using a wood burning tool you can draw a design onto the wood. Here is what you will need:

- Any unfinished wood furniture like chairs, tables etc.

- Wood burning tool

- Wood burning tool tip

- Painter's tape

- Pencil

- Paper

- Graphite sheet

This furniture is usually pre made although you can buy it flat packed. Pine is cheapest and will give you an easy base to start your design on. Other woods are more expensive but they may suit your room style better.

To get the wood burn effect you should first choose which design you would like. Lay a large piece of paper on the ground and lay the furniture on top of it. Trace around the piece of furniture or the section you want to wood burn.

Draw the design on the piece of paper and then tape the paper to the furniture. Trace over the design with the graphite paper and a pencil and make sure to press hard so that the design goes through. Once this is done, you can begin to use your wood burning tool.

The wood burning tool requires warming up so take this extra time into account when doing your project. By using the pre-drawn guidelines you can then start to burn the design onto the unfinished wood furniture. Some people take this time to make the design more intricate and detailed but remember you can do as much or as little as you like.

After completing application of wood burning, using a natural bristled paintbrush, apply a coat of wood stain onto the furniture to provide a finished look and also protect wood burn artwork for many more years to come. Dry your wood stain for about twenty-four hours before you cut out your felt to fit the bottom side of the feet of the unfinished furniture. Measure the feet and cut out the bottom piece and then perform a light spray on the felt with glue adhesive. Put this onto the bottom of the unfinished furniture legs and press it with your fingers.

You can also paint the furniture once you have finished burning it as the design will usually show through the coat of paint. Wood burning is a cheap and effective way to get a personal look to any unfinished wood furniture. Why not add a personal touch to yours today?
