Wedding Invitation Etiquette
A very important decision when you are preparing for your wedding is how your invitations will be. Invitations give guests the first impression about your big day. There are many various themes for invitations such as nature, balloons, animals, tropical, etc. You want to choose an invitation style that will match the entire theme of your wedding. If there is not an invitation that fits your design, you can look into having your invitations specially designed based around your theme. The problem with this is that custom designed invitations are significantly more expensive than invitations that have already been designed and created. For most couples that are planning their wedding, they find that this increased expense is often very small when compared to having the perfect preparation and design for their wedding.
Guests are probably asking themselves several questions in anticipation of your wedding. What will the wedding design be? Will the wedding be a formal or informal event? Once you have decided on the look of your invitations, you need to consider some specifics about proper wedding invitation etiquette. Here are a few tips that will help you with making sure that proper wedding etiquette is followed in relation to your invitations.
Make sure that guests have plenty of time to respond. On average, wedding invitations are mailed at least six to eight weeks in advance. This could seem like a long time, but this gives guests plenty of time to make arrangements in relation to attending the wedding. If you have a wedding during the week, you will want your guests to be able to request time off from work well in advance. If you have your wedding over a holiday weekend, you will want to send the invitations out even earlier. Most people normally have some type of holiday plans, such as barbequing or a picnic, so you want to make sure that they have plenty of advance notice to be able to attend your event and not commit to other holiday plans.
Make sure that you put stamps on all reply cards. Guests should not have to be responsible for paying the postage to send your reply card back for your wedding. This is a very small cost and it will mean a lot to your guests. Make sure that you put the return address on the back of the reply card envelopes. This will help to make sure that all of the cards get returned without risking losing them in the mail due to different addresses.
Add a map or a card with directions to the location of the wedding with the invitations. This will be a nice gesture and will help your guests to find the wedding. Many locations offer complimentary direction cards and these fit right inside the envelopes with the invitations. If there are not direction cards offered by the place where your wedding will be held, you can make these on your computer and simply print them out yourself. You should make sure that the name, address, and phone number of the location is on them, as well as simple directions. This simple act will help your guests immensely and also gives you peace of mind that they will get to your wedding on time and with as little stress as possible.
If you follow these simple steps, you will be able to give your guests the best etiquette. You will also have less stress knowing that everything will run smoothly. This will make it much easier to enjoy one of the most important days of your life.
