Tips to Make Your Long Distance Relationship Last

By Brad Fargo

It's really hard to get through a long distance relationship, though with work, you can definitely make some work. Sometimes our loved ones live in different places. It might be because of school, a new job, or some other reason. Regardless, this is always a hard thing to deal with.

Many long distance relationships fail. Whether yours will endure or not really depends on your unique situation. Having said that, I've seen many fail and they generally fail for the same reasons. Listen to my advice closely and you'll be in a much better position.

I know that some of this may not seem easy to do, but it's something that you should definitely consider for the sake of your relationship's chances of working. I can say this from experience, as I've made some of the mistakes that I'll ask you to avoid.

The first thing that's necessary is that you see each other as often as you can. I know it's hard since you're far away from each other, but the longer you go without seeing each other the harder things will get.

Whatever it is, try to make it as often as you can. They say that distance makes the heart grow fonder, and this is true to some extent, but the phrase "out of sight, out of mind" also holds truth and you don't want to end up being shelved for someone readily accessible in the other city.

The next advice is to never show jealousy. Be trusting of your companion, as part of making a long distance work is trusting one another. Jealousy often leads to tensions, fights, and questioning as to whether it's worth the difficulty of a long distance relationship.

Resist the urge to show jealousy and don't let your imagination run wild. Trust your loved one just as he or she is supposed to trust you. Like any relationship, one that involves distance must be built on trust.
