Get Motivated by Knowing Your Passion
Let me tell you a story about Kevin Brown. The first time I walked into the meeting room, at a hotel in Philadelphia, Kevin Brown was setting up tables for my meeting. He came over with a big smile and said, " I am Kevin Brown, and I would like to welcome you to our home- I want to make sure you feel at home when you are here, and if you need anything give me a call. I am employee of the year and I will exceed your expectations, because when you care, it shows." You see Kevin is the definition of passion. How do we define passion? The dictionary defines it as: "Pervading spirit, ruling passion, master passion, fullness of heart, flow of soul." I mean who wouldnt want that? Is it impoatant to feel passion both personally and professionally ? Of course. If you are passionate you are motivated. I am sure when you met someone who was passionate and enthusiastic it made an amazing impression. I have never had a meeting in Philly at some other hotel. Why? Because of Kevin. I ask for Kevin when I call and if he isnt going to be there we change the date. The asset he is to an employer is great. Can you say that about you?
If you deal with someone who is negative and nasty, doesn't it make a horrible impression? Sure it does. Think about the opposite; what happens when you get someone in a business, store or restuarant, who has passion, who is amazing and has energy? You love it.
There are many advantages to having a passion for what you do: 1) Success will be much more likely 2) You will be more productive because you will want to do the work 3) You can have a big impact on other people 4) Lets face it; you will have a lot more fun 5) Lastly you will be motivated and engaged.
Folks who have the magic passion are go getters who have charm and people want to be around them. They have a charisma that is contageous. These people drink and eat sleep what they are passionate about because well, the love it! So you are sitting there reading this and thinking to yourself- " What if I am really not that " type" of person I mean- really? That kind of passion for you just seems over the top silly. You are thinking to yourself "I dont feel that way at all. " You may be thinking "O.K. look this motivational mumbo jumbo stuff has gotta go. Not for me."
If I may, I would like permission to be very blunt with you (picture me close up to your face): you haven't found what you are passionate about. If you are not passionate about your work and your life, then change it! Stop complaining and do something. Life is too short to keep doing what is passionless and mundane! But you must make that decision.
Last week I stepped on to an elevator and said "good morning!" I didnt realize I broke the elevator rule. The people on the elevator all looked like they wanted to run from the crazy man. Oh please lets all drink some passion punch! If you feel proud, energized, upbeat, passionate, postive in everthing you do- you will be motivated, and will get more accomplished than you ever thought possible.
