Why Play A Red Electric Guitar

By Tina Schwitz
Nov 3, 2009
It's sort of a big deal to stand out on stage or when playing guitar in front of friends in a small group. Singers are a dime a dozen, as well as bands. You could probably poll high school students and find that at least 1/3 of them have been in a band at some point. To stand out, you need something special. Vocalists need great voices, drummers need a good drum kit, and guitarists need something special like a red electric guitar.

The fact is that a red electric guitar will not make you a better player, so you're on your own with that, but it can boost your image by quite a bit. Red is the color that travels the furthest among all the colors. It's also a color that grabs your attention. The color red can grab and hold onto you, and your audience, and pull you all in. With a red guitar, you might grab someone's eye in the best way possible.

Naturally, a red electric guitar means nothing if it isn't one that you're comfortable with. You still need to be playing a guitar that you're comfortable with. The color, while you're going to use it, isn't what you really need to play well. It is all actually in your abilities. It may look or even sound great when someone else is playing it, but that's not what you should be considering. You should be considering if it looks great on you, if you sound great on it. A guitar is supposed to make you look unique, not look like everyone else.

It is true that some guitar players are so unique that you only need to hear a few notes and you know who they are, such as Jimi Hendrix or Stevie Ray Vaughan. That's why we're looking at red: people need to associate you with something while you're still getting your sound out there. If you're going to play what everyone else does, don't get too hopeful for the future. Seek out the perfect sound that flows from your fingers and makes you special.

Now, actually buying or getting a red electric guitar is usually very simple. If you're lucky enough to find your sound in a standard guitar, then repainting is a decent option. Making it look good, especially if you've found your sound in a high end guitar, requires a light touch. In truth, you do not have to pick only red. Red is just the boldest color out there. You can't go wrong as long as the color feels right on you.
