Choosing A Burial Site

By Amy P. Cunningham

When choosing a burial site, there are many different aspects one must take into consideration. When a loved one dies, the last thing you want to do is worry about all the arraignments, but it is very important that the person gets a good farewell.

In choosing this location of finality, one must consider the accessibility of the burial grounds to others who may want to visit. Where the deceased would have liked to be buried is also an important factor.

It would also be wise to place deceased close to other family member burial plots. Cost is definitely something that should be taken care of or planned for beforehand.

Who should the person be buried with. Should the person be buried with other relatives, or buried with married couple. Usually the person is buried with the person they are married to, which makes the decision a little easier, and with family if not married.

Religion is also important. Catholics people usually have their own burial grounds. Each religion has its own type of funeral, and sometimes are placed in grounds depending on religion. This could be important to people to be buried with other people of the same religion.

Unfortunately, like everything else, price is the determining factor in which burial ground you will be placed. The ones that cost more, obviously are better kept. Many people don't want to be a burden when they die and ask family before to place them where they feel is best financially for the remaining family members.

What sort of place provides a lasting sense of peace and "fit" for this loved one? Many people dislike noisy places and prefer a spot where quiet solitude is possible when visiting a grave later. Yet some like certain landmarks, accessibility, or a more active place that befits an active person's role in this busy life.

Its important how well kept the cemetery is. Some places let grass grow over the tombstones. Its usually nice to have a place take care of the land and keep it looking nice. You want to remember the person not think about other things such as the grass and the tombstone. It is respectful to keep the ground looking nice.

There are a lot of things one must think about while picking a burial site. Its a hard time because you are mourning the loss and also have a lot of items that must be taken care of. Hopefully it will be easy for you to pick a place if you consider the different aspects.
