You really have no way of knowing what you are getting yourself into when you take the vows "for better or worse." But if someone has been married before, their divorce proceedings will reveal a great deal about how they behave under pressure. Find divorce records online before you make any decisions about getting serious with someone.

It's embarrassing when you trust a guy and then find out later that he's already paying alimony and child support to two other women. That is exactly the kind of information that someone would be trying to hide. Naturally, people want to hide the weak moments of their lives but concealing marriages or divorces is deal breaker, ladies.

Take the example of Jack Ryan, a former republican senator from Illinois. After winning the GOP primary in 2004 that would have put him against now president Obama he was forced to withdraw from the race resulting from the disclosure of his divorce records. He had not committed any crimes, but in the divorce records, it came out that he had taken his wife to a bunch of adult clubs and tried to coerce her into questionable sexual escapades.

It is very debatable whether or not this information should have been a factor in the election for public office, but it's probably something the next Mrs. Ryan should know about. These days you have no way of knowing what a person is trying to hide. It's na"ve to be too trusting. Don't wait and find out the hard way. Things in a person's past can reveal a great deal, about who they are in the present. You have a right to know the truth.

During the divorce proceedings, there is chance for both sides to get everything on record. Of course, during the course of a long marriage, both parties will have considerable grievances and gripes. What you want to watch out for are signs of abusive behavior. It's unlikely that someone will change their ways if they have a violent background. It's just not worth the gamble.

In the past, you would have to go to the county where the divorce happened and request a copy from a courthouse. This was before the internet made the process simpler. It's possible to get the same information available to private investigators online confidentially and quickly. The Freedom of Information Act makes divorce records and matter of public record in most states.

You have a right to know about how the divorce proceedings went down to find out what "for better or worse" means to the person you are dating. You can get answers to a lot of questions with divorce records online that you can't get anywhere else. It's your right, and you are worth it.
