By Allen J. Howard

Anyone who listens to hip hop knows what a freestyle battle is. When two emcees get together and let the words flow, they become their weapons of destruction. When you freestyle hip hop you put yourself out there and your main goal is to let everyone know what you're about. If you freestyle hip hop, or wish to learn how to freestyle, then these 3 tips will help you!

1. Improve your skills by writing down your freestyles when you practice. Or better yet, try recording your freestyle practices. This works out great for a couple reasons. It allows you to hear the flow of great lines as well as to save what you freestyle in real time. By taking notes on what you freestyle, you will steadily expand your knowledge and have a reference book to check back on for inspiration.

2. Observe and report, or more simply said just use your surroundings. Rapping about what is around you can draw a crowd in your favor and make you seem genius, especially if you can tie up some really sick lines. It also reassures that you don't rely solely on your written material. You can also help to structure your freestyle a little easier by using your surroundings to "fill in" for you until your punch comes.

3. Remember that subtle qualities can set you apart from your opponent. Pay attention to your confidence, your enthusiasm, your charisma. Overall, how you appear to your crowd and opponent can make or break your credit and your freestyle. Sometimes simply touching your opponent during an emphasis can make the power behind your words much more meaningful.

The feeling you get when you know you just spit out a fire freestyle is unmatchable. These are just a few tips to get anyone interested a good start to learn freestyling hip hop.
