Will Jump Strength Training Shoes Help You Improve Your Vertical Leap? Check This Out...
Jump strength training shoes are not exactly cheap. They can cost anywhere from $79 - $199 depending on which brand you buy. The big question is.....are they worth the price? Let's take a closer look.
Strength shoes keep a person's heels off of the ground by using a 1.5 inch rubber platform that is placed below the balls of your feet. The rubber platform will make your calf muscles work harder whenever you perform any type of exercise. I'm not going to tell you that no one ever increases their vertical leap with strength shoes because some people do. However, any improvements they get in their vertical jump is a direct result from the exercises and drills they are performing rather than the magic of the strength shoes.
Many scientific studies have been performed comparing people who use strength shoes and people who do not. The exact same training program is used for both groups of people. What these studies show is that the people who are not using strength training shoes increase their verticals at the same rate as those who are using the shoes. In some instances the people not using the shoes had a bigger increase in their vertical leap.
The workouts that were performed are the routines that were suggested by the shoe manufacturer. The scientific study randomly selected twelve college track and field athletes to a strength shoe group and a non-strength shoe group. After finishing an eight week training program provided by the manufacturer, the non-strength shoe group had a greater improvement than the strength shoe group on every performance test they completed!
The non-strength shoe group had a larger increase in their 40 yard dash time, vertical leap, slow speed strength, and fast speed strength. The only area in which the strength shoe group improved more was in calf circumference. Out of the six athletes in the strength shoe group, two complained of shin splints and one individual had to completely drop out of the study due to the pain.
Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against jump strength shoes. If you want to use them that is great. I'm just trying to give you some solid information. I have never used strength shoes in my vertical jump workouts and I was able to increase my vertical by 12 inches over a 7 month period of time.
If you are only using strength shoes to increase your vertical leap you are probably not going to get the large gains you are looking for. A customizable, step by step vertical leap program that covers every aspect of vertical jump training will help you reach your goals faster. This type of training will bring you BIG increases in your vertical.
Simply, targeting improvements on your form alone and mastering the proper techniques can increase your vertical by 2 - 4 inches! You can find out more information about increasing your vertical leap and the program I used at the links I have below:
