Make Windows Boot Faster By Following These Quick And Easy Tips

If you're like most computer users, then you are using the Windows operating system. It is by far the most popular computer operating system on the market. There are several different flavors of Windows, but they each have one thing in common which users all experience. The longer you on a Windows machine, the slower it will get in booting up. If this has happened to you, don't fret because here are some quick fixes that you can use to make Windows boot faster.

If you've ever done a file search on your Windows machine, then you will be familiar with Windows automatic indexing. This is a program which will index each and every file found on your computer, so that you can find it quickly without having to go from folder to folder. This program may sound good in theory, but in practice it makes your computer boot slower. Simply by deselecting the automatic Windows indexing option, you can speed up boot time.

Another resource hog on to start up is your Fonts folder. Each font you have sitting in this folder must be loaded when your computer starts. If you have a bunch of fonts in your computer, it will naturally be slower. You really do not need to many fonts unless you happen to be a designer. Try to decide which fonts you can live without and get rid of them.

Over time when you use your computer, you will be installing and uninstalling programs, sometimes on a frequent basis. Each time you add a program to your hard drive then uninstall later, you will be mixing the data on your drive. To combat this problem, defragging your hard drive is a must. This will bring all related data together so your computer runs faster, even upon booting.

Almost all computers have junk files located on them. When you uninstall a program, it can leave bits and pieces of itself behind. These bits and pieces may be loaded when Windows starts, which can slow down your machine. Your computer will also store temporary Internet files which should be taken care of from time to time. You should use the Disk Cleanup tool that you will find under System Tools to clean these files from your hard drive.

You can decrease your computers start up time by adding extra RAM. It will also make your overall computer performance much better. If you are suffering from a slow starting computer, take the above advice to heart, and more importantly put it to use. If you only use one of these, it will make Windows boot faster.
