Their are several tools out there that can assist you in finding your target market and seeing who your competition really is. One great tool is called Google Trends. Google Trends is a public web facility of Google Inc., about Google Search, that shows how often a particular search-term is entered relative to the total search-volume across various regions of the world, and in various languages. This tool will boost your success rate being that most of your competition doesn't even know it exist.
