With a shop near every neighborhood, video stores have been the most convenient way to get movies for years. Below is a small sample.

Cul-De-Sac: Macabre comedy in regards to 2 injured gangsters who terrorize middle-aged milquetoast and his gorgeous spouse. Not a total winner, although excellent cast and trendy direction make it a good movie. Cast includes Donald Pleasence, Francoise Dode, Lionel Stander, Jack MacGowrah, lain Quarrier, and Jacqueline Bisset. (111 minutes, 1966)

Bram Stoker's Dracula: Count Dracula is on a mission to find the one woman he truly ever loved. HE wants to be eternally reunited with her. He leaves Transylvania and goes to London to see if a woman who looks exactly like his love of centuries ago is in fact the woman he searches for.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Cute variance on vampire legends, with high school valley girl Swanson turning out to be "the selected one" of her generation to kill wandering vampires. Sutherland is superlative as her mentor and guide, and Reubens the prior Pee-wee Herman is fun as one of the fanged bullies. Look for Ben Affleck as a basketball player. Cast includes Kristy Swanson, Donald Sutherland, Paul Reubens, Rutger Hauer, Luke Perry, and Gregson Wagner. (86 minutes, 1992)

Cry of Battle: Choppy action movie set in the Philippines with MacArthur as child of prosperous businessman who joins sectarian cause finding romance and sense of maturation. Cast includes Van Heflin, Rita Moreno, James MacArthur, and Leopoldo Salcedo. (99 minutes, 1963)

Faraway So Close: The exact Wenders cast if not the exact Wenders film takes up where the more victorious Wings of Desire left off. This time it is life saver Sander who becomes mortal, joining his old celestial buddy who's now wedded to a carnival entertainer. Lighter going than its predecessor, although additionally more lightweight; it's still a good film to watch. Cast includes Otto Sander, Bruno Ganz, Solveig Dommartin, Peter Falk, Willem Dafoe, Lou Reed, and Mikhail Gorbachev. (140 minutes, 1993)

Trading Mom: It's about three siblings who couldn't stand their mom. Spacek cast a spell which makes her and all memory of her vanish. Here is a flat and inanimate story with meager production values. Cast includes Sissy Spacek, Anna Chlumsky, Aaron Michael Metchik, Asher Metchik, Maureen Stapleton, and Merritt Yohnka. (82 minutes, 1994)

Raise the Red Lantern: Striking reenactment of the life of a young concubine in 1920's China, as university educated gal (Gong Li) is sent to feudal nobleman's palatial home to become his latest spouse. The relations between her and her predecessors, all of whom live on the premises. The interaction amid the ladies, the servants, and their master are brilliantly played out. The film provides an exceptional view of sex, dependability, and captivity during that time. Cast includes Gong Li, Ma Jingwu, He Caifei, Cao Cuifeng, Jin Shuyuan, Kong Lin, Ding Weimin, and Cui Zhihgang. (125 minutes, 1991)

Try or Rock: Neil Simon's supreme comedy of embarrassment, adjusted from Bruce Jay Friedman's small tale "A Change of Plan." Jewish boy Grodin gets wedded to Berlin and meets an attractive WASP blond Shepherd on their honeymoon, and decides he must change his life. Very comical but that depends on your point of view. The Cast includes Charles Grodin, Cybill Shepherd, Jeannie Berlin, Eddie Albert, and Audra Lindley. (104 minutes, 1972)

Bulletproof: Covert cop Wayans teams up with Sandler. The crook he's trying to bust is a drug kingpin who is proving to be very difficult to bring down. Cast includes Adam Sandler, Damon Wayans, James Caan, Kristen Wilson, James Farentino, Bill Nunn, and Jeep Swenson. (85 minutes, 1996)
