There are many important factors that must be taken into account in the interior design of any space. By sticking to the fundamental tenets given below, most of the major matters will be tackled. Each of these has an important role to play and it may be utilized in many ways on the basis of the kind of space you are dealing with.

Unity: According to this, the entire space should be considered as a single unit, which has been separated through walls, and this must be kept in mind while designing the interiors of the space, which therefore should have some consistency. It will be wise to keep in mind the overall scheme of things.

Balance: This deals with the optimal distribution of different items in an area. Objects which have equivalent visual appeal must be placed at different points in the room to strike a balance along a predetermined axis. There are three kinds of balance. The simplest one to accomplish and the most traditional one is symmetrical balance. The second kind is asymmetrical balance, which is very much in vogue, but requires a lot of imagination. The third kind of balance is radial, where you select a proper centre and position items relative to it.

Proportion: This is basically to do with the size and proportions of the articles. It is essential that a majority of objects in a room be proportional to each other. A lack of proportion will cause the room to lose its overall appeal as certain articles will be too visible, while others may get buried in the background.

Focus: Having a focus in a room is a sign of excellent interior design. What type of focal object you select is up to you. It could be something like a nice painting or a furniture item. This item must make an impression on the viewer and also fall in line with the design of the rest of the room. It should be eye-catching without seeming irrelevant in the room.

Rhythm: Having a rhythm too is very essential for attaining a good design. The design must appear to flow according to a pattern from one point to another. This can be achieved through the use of curves, patterned walls or floors, through artworks or furnishings, and through repeating shades or designs.

If adequate attention is given to these aspects, you can be certain that the interior designing exercise will be successful. However, it is best to use the expertise of an interior design expert who can help you with these factors and much more.
