An Easy Way To Make Home Made Solar Cells At Home
It is easy to make home made solar cells. These are cells that can be useful for helping to power small items you have. It is also very easy to build one of these cells. You can work with a jar as well as some copper sheets and water.
First you will need to use the right base material for the task. A copper sheet will be needed. This is because the copper is going to be used to help with receiving the energy that will be created. Silicon is generally used in professionally made solar cells. However that material is something that is very difficult to get on the market. Copper will be your best option.
Getting the copper cut is important because you will need the right shape and size for it. You should use a square shape for your copper sheet. It helps to work with six inches at the least and eight inches at the most. Also, wash your hands after cutting so that you will not get foreign materials onto the copper. This is so you the copper will be able to work at its best level.
Grease can be present on some copper sheets when making a cell. You will need to wash it off. You should then use an emery cloth for sanding down the cell. After this works the sheet will have to be heated. You will get a cuprous oxide layer created as a result of this.
The cuprous oxide layer that is formed after heating will be black in appearance. It will also be able to be removed after it cools off. Be sure to hold onto the layer for later use. After this is done you will see a layer of copper with a rust coloring to it. The layer will be a major part of the cell in that it handles energy.
In this next part your jar will come into use. The copper sheet should be curved around the jar with an angle that contours the jar. Your cuprous oxide should be around the jar too. Both sheets should be exposed to the outside so that they can work properly. They will both be able to handle sunlight at this point.
You should put an alligator clip onto each plate. You can then put the clip from the clean copper plate onto a positive energy terminal. The clip on the cuprous oxide plate should be on the negative terminal. This is so the energy can be created from the cell.
Finally you should pour water that has been mixed with salt into your jar. When this works you can get your cell to work in the sun. As you place it in the sun you will be able to notice that it is producing energy.
The process of making a solar cell at home is easy to follow. It is a great process because it can be used to help with creating a cell that you can use. It can work to help with powering various small items in your home.
