The New Hip: Alessi
A light is a lamp and a lamp is just a stick with a bulb on top, right? Maybe. Come see the light. Keep your eyes peeled and a space cleared on that end table -- maybe that coffee table. Who cares about lighting? But you may be missing out on a slick little investment that could flip your understand or at least broaden your horizons.
Just a stick with a bulb on top, you say? Sometimes. Lights play off surfaces by nature. It refracts, pools, cuts, and softens. It can make a room as welcoming as warm pie. The right frequency can rekindle a memory; take you back to grandma in her rocker and mom in the kitchen. Light's funny that way.
It all starts with a flick, a toggle, a switch, or a turn. Warm lights, harsh fluorescents, cozy halogens -- there a light for every occasion. What's that, an Alessi? Very nice. Yes, sir, put her right on the end table and crank her up. Ah, now it's like sipping Prosecco in St. Tropez.
You don't have to be a snob about it. You pick your clothes; you pick the food you like. Why not take that solipsistic kick to the next level and start giving a toss about what you sit on, what you walk on, and how you light it all up? You're not out anything except a little bit of culture and maybe an embarrassing moment or two. Take it in stride. It's OK, not everyone knows what an Alessi is.
Your pad is your pad. The world is the world. Pick out a spot, flip on your iPhone, and 3G your way to some pertinent information about design tips galore. You don't have to live like a dope. Be you. Except better and in an ironed shirt. When you're done springing forward and have to fall back, you'll be happy to have a lovely little light to clap to life. Clap on. Clap off.
