That Nice Hot Shower Is Causing Some Serious Skin And Hair Problems
The nice hot shower you take every day may be the source of some of your skin and hair problems. That's because the chlorine added at your local water treatment plant gets all over your body when you take that shower. It more easily damages skin and hair because it becomes vaporized in the hot water. This realization has caused growing numbers of people to install shower water filters to halt this damage.
Water comes into homes and businesses after it has been treated at a central location. These water treatment plants use large amounts of chlorine in the effort to kill off harmful bacteria and other organisms. Residual amounts of chlorine continue on into the water mains and eventually onto our bodies when we take showers and baths.
Even though it seems like there would be more of a threat from drinking the water, it turns out the shower is more harmful. The hot shower water helps to vaporize the chlorine at the same time the pores on the skin open. That makes the largest organ on our body (skin) soak up the chlorine at a higher rate. It also makes the chlorine stick to hair, making it dull and heavy.
Even though it's a big problem if you're concerned with not aging your skin prematurely, it's relatively easy to fix. Shower filters specifically designed to remove chlorine without reducing water pressure are easy to get and install. They're different from the charcoal water filters you might use elsewhere in your home. Carbon filters do not work very well with hot water so chlorine shower filters use a combination of copper and zinc instead. These metals react with the chlorine in the water, making it better for your skin and hair.
If you don't like the idea of attaching a small appliance to your shower head, you could choose to go with a much larger solution. Whole home water filters are available that would remove the need for a shower water filter. The obvious down side is that these whole home filters need to be professionally installed and can be quite expensive.
Whichever solution you choose, it's important for the health of you and your family to somehow remove chlorine from your shower water. Shower water filters are a very economical way to do this. The sooner you make this upgrade the sooner your skin and hair can start to feel younger.
