It is true that we spend about a third of our lives in bed, so doesn't it seem right to purchase only good quality bedding to experience a good, restful sleep? Good sleep attributes to good quality of life so make sure to purchase the best of what you can afford.
The first thing to consider when purchasing bed sheets is the thread count of those sheets. The higher the thread count, means more threads per square inch. And the more threads per square inch makes that fabric strong, more durable and longer lasting.
The highest quality and thread count is found in the King of cotton, the Egyptian cotton, which is grown along the Nile.
Its long fiber creates a silky, soft feel and is more durable and less prone to shrinkage, compared to its counterparts. You can find thread counts 300 up to 600 in luxury Egyptian bed sheets.
Next choice is Pima or Supima which is compared to the luxury of Egyptian sheets. The difference is geographical; Egyptian is just that and the cotton is grown along the Nile River in Egypt. Pima is American and is grown in the Southwest.
Perhaps not as high end, but still a comfortable fabric and can be found in a 100% cotton or a 50/50 poly cotton blend.
Mattress pads and covers will protect your mattress from sweat and stains and provide extra padding and comfort. An extra thick pad or cover is certainly cheaper than buying a pillow-top mattress.
Also consider a mattress pad or cover when you purchase your mattress. This will protect your mattress from any sweat or stains which in turn will prolong the life of the mattress. Pillow-top mattresses are soft and warm, but a bit pricey. Some users say they are too soft and warm. Buying an extra thick pad for your mattress will definitely be cheaper than buying a pillow-top.
Don't forget to choose a warm blanket or comforter to top the bedding for a warm and restful night. Choose your comforter like you would choose your thread count. This way you'll get more years of comfort and enjoyment. You know what they say; you get what you pay for.
