Kill Bedbugs: Do-It-Yourself Methods
Some homeowners rely on professional exterminators to get rid of the bedbug infestation in their homes. But do you know that you can get rid of these insects on your own? All you need is a lot of patience and determination. In fact, there are so many ways to kill bedbugs.
Pesticides are very effective in getting rid of bedbugs. You can purchase pesticides in dust form or in sprays. When using pesticides, be sure to properly follow the application instructions. Pesticides must be handled with utmost care because these are considered poisonous.
Another way to kill bedbugs is through extreme heat. Steam clean the infested material. In this procedure, make sure that the material will withstand this method because some surfaces get destroyed by steam cleaning.
Another way is through exposing the infested material under the sun. Do this for a couple of hours.
Before steam cleaning or exposing the furniture, make sure that you scrub and vacuum the surfaces first.
You can also use diatomaceous soil in killing bedbugs. The edges of diatomaceous soil are jagged which kill bedbugs that come into contact. But you have nothing to worry about the soil causing you or your pet any harm because the particles are too small. But before you dust the soil on infested materials, you have to scrub and vacuum the surfaces first. Then, dust the soil on the infested furniture. After a couple of days, vacuum the soil.
You can also make use of a mattress cover to kill bedbugs. If only your mattress is infested, seal this inside a mattress cover with zippers along the side. This cover ensures that bedbugs will not be able to feed on your blood. No food means death by starvation. It usually takes at least 6 months to kill bedbugs using this method.
The used vacuum bag must always be disposed properly. This means that you must seal it inside a plastic bag to ensure that live eggs and bedbugs will not be transmitted. Never leave the used vacuum bag around the house.
