Curtains are a very important part of decoration of any home. They are not just the decorative stuff for a room but it has many other usages such as providing privacy to the tenant of the room. Windows can be decorated in many ways if the purpose is only to decorate but considering its other purpose, curtains have been in use for quite a long time, not only this. Considering that things have changed greatly over the time and things have advanced greatly, so are the styles, fabrics, materials and designs of the curtains have changed and have become very diverse.

Keeping the importance of curtains in view, it is always very important to keep in view also that they go with the setting of your room. You should properly research on curtains, go through the variety and options that are available, give it some time, evaluate your requirement and then make a decision. Is privacy your first priority? Do you want the curtains for keeping the room temperature low and shutting out the heat? How much light do you want in the room with the curtains in place? This is important because the amount of light required in a room varies from room to room, as in the case of living room, study room and kitchen, which should have more light, so the type of fabric that should be used for the curtains of these rooms should be kept thin. Where as, in the case of bedrooms, people normally don't like bright like in there so they use heavy drapes for it, which are made out of thick fabric.

Another tip is that if you want your room to look bigger then you should use more fabric than average for the curtains. Also fix your curtain rods around 15 to 30 cm above the window frames. This would require more fabric than the average used for curtains. One more thing that should be done in order to give your room a larger look is that you should increase the length of your curtains that it falls below the window frames and reach till the floor. This technique is used to add a more sophisticated and luxurious look to the room. To add more width to the room, increase the width of the curtains, making the rods wider than the window frames, so that it gives a wider look to the room.

Curtains also come with lining; it is up to you which ones you want, the ones with the lining or the ones without lining. The lining has many purposes, one of these purposes is to keep them from getting dirty with the dust, and the second one is to keep the colours of the curtains from fading by the sunlight. Another purpose of the lining is that it blocks the light from entering into the room, because it keeps the lights out. Apart from this, it also gives extra protection from the heat. One disadvantage of lining is that it is difficult to clean and wash, whereas the ones without lining are that they are easy to clean and wash and maintain. Curtains with lining helps in keeping the room cooler.

Moreover, they also provide extra insulation when it comes to managing heat. However, the curtains without lining are much easier to maintain in aspects of cleaning, as they are lighter to handle hence, easy to wash. Such curtains help to keep the room cool. If you think the light fabric of your curtains will be translucent when lights are turned on, you can add a heavier drape.
