Teeth Whitening Treatment: How Teeth Whitening Can Give You A Beautiful Smile

Are you a smoker? Maybe you like your coffee and soda and the stains have caught up with you? If you want a whiter smile, a teeth whitening treatment could help you.

In the beginning, our teeth are fairly white. It is as we go through our life that the protective enamel begins to wear and form cracks. This covering is in place to keep teeth healthy during gnashing, chewing, and guard it from sugar. Beneath the enamel, the tooth is yellow. The cracks themselves will also be filled with food debris and dirt, making the teeth appear less vibrant. Whitening treatments lift these stains.

The first type of stain is known as an extrinsic stain. These are simply on the surface and do not affect the interior of the tooth. They are caused by dark beverages like coffee, certain foods, and smoking or dipping tobacco. Extrinsic stains are minor and can be brushed away generally. Bleaching may be an option for the more stubborn ones. However, if not caught and dealt with early, they can ingrain on the tooth below.

The next classification of stain is known as intrinsic. This means it is affecting the interior of the tooth rather than just the surface. They are much more ingrained and stubborn. In most cases, bleaching over a course of a year can be successful. Stains like these are caused by trauma, normal aging, or exposure to high amounts of fluoride.

The safest way to have the bright smile you want is to visit your dentist. Having the procedure done in-office offers the safest, quickest, and most effective results possible. Of course, you do pay for these benefits. Your dentist will first insert a rubber dam to protect your gums from the chemical. He will then cover your teeth with a strong peroxide gel and let it sit in twenty-minute intervals. Once you have reached an hour, you are done. You will see results immediately.

Treatments are also available for you to do yourself at home. Your dentist can directly give you one or you can purchase them at most retail stores. The peroxide count is lower than a dentist would use. However, they are cheaper, more convenient, and can still yield fair results. You will most likely find either strips or a mouth guard to cover the gel while it sits overnight in your mouth. Both methods are effective.

There are certain risks that come along with treatments like these. You could be sensitive to pressure and temperature for a few days all the way up to a few months. It can get painful sometimes. If for some reason the chemicals get on your gums, they can become irritated and painful, too. You also run the risk of uneven coloring throughout your mouth.

Do you want to finally get rid of those tobacco and coffee stains? Would you like a brighter smile to attract a partner? If so, a respectable teeth whitening treatment could be the answer for you. Get to your dentist today and discuss your options with a professional.
