Installing A Wireless Pet Fence

By Clementine Jacobs

Utilizing a wireless pet fence to keep your pet safely within the yard is not only easy to set up, but it is also a safer alternative to traditional fences. Some feel that these types of fences are not safe for the dog and that it could cause serious damage to them over time. Truthfully, if you take the time to train your dog to avoid the fence boundaries then they will keep away from them altogether. Even better is that wireless fences do not do any long term damage because of the small amount of electricity they use, making them completely safe.

The reason that many people feel that these fences are not safe is because they send a small jolt of electricity to the dog via collar whenever they get too close to the fence. These are not actually fences, but really wires that are electrically charged. They are run underneath the ground around your home. You put a collar with a receiver on your dog and that receiver transmits that small jolt whenever it needs to. This is enough to deter your pup from getting too close. Often two or three times of experiencing this jolt is enough to hinder the dog from trying to leave the yard, but you are still going to need to train them to ensure that they don't have to get shocked every once in a while.

These types of fences are also affordably priced in the low hundreds, which means they are far more affordable than standard fences. All that you need to do is dig a track around the outer area of your yard and lay the wire. Then set up little markers around it to show where it is and put the collar on your dog. It is very simple and only takes an hour or two to set up.

Dogs are naturally playful and love to explore, so there is no reason for you not to have a fence if you live in a house. Holding your pup on a leash can also be painful and actually keeps them from doing any physical activity. Dogs do not like being held to one spot. They want to have free range of where they live and play, and you can give them that within reason.

Do not worry about the safety of your dog if you decide to go with this type of fence. These fences may seem cruel at the start, and training can take some time, but they will learn to live with the fence over time and be happy to stay within its boundaries. A wireless pet fence is a great way to both give your dog some space to run in, and to give you some peace of mind that they will not be escaping anytime soon. They are happy to be able to run around, and you will be happy enough to know that they will not be in any sort of danger after you set up the fence.
