Biggest Loser contestants are able to be successful so easily because their only job is to lose weight. They don't have daily activities such as commuting to work and taking care of the family that make finding the time and energy to lose weight so hard.

But busy moms can lose weight quickly and safely following a few simple rules.

1. Don't drink calories. Change from sugary, fattening sodas and mochas for healthier versions such as diet drinks and sugar-free skinny lattes. Switch to skim milk and eat fruit instead of drinking fruit juice. Most importantly, drink more water. Making these simple changes can save hundreds of calories a day without sacrificing your thirst.

2. Get out and play! Exercise is about keeping the body working efficiently as well as burning calories. But that doesn't mean you have to join the gym or run a marathon. Playing tag or hide-n-seek with the kids is a great way to get moving. Or if you have a baby, use a stroller or baby backpack to take him for a walk. Sign up for a class ... a dance class, tennis lesson or other fun activity that can get you moving without it feeling like a chore.

3. Eat better. This is the part that seems like no fun. But eating better doesn't mean you can't enjoy what you eat. Often it's just about switching refined foods to whole grain ones. Making sure you have fresh veggies or fruit with each meal. Learn to turn your favorite fattening meals into lower fat healthier meals.

4. Stick to a serving. Many people don't realize that their weight problems come from the fact that they don't know what a serving size is. They think the small package of chips is a serving when in fact its 2 or 3 servings. Even healthy items can contribute to weight gain if you eat too much of it. Learn to check labels for serving size is and if necessary, measure what you eat. If you find you're still hungry when you stick to a serving, drink water or tea, or have an apple to help fill you up.

5. Have healthy snacks. Skip the high calorie snack options such as chips and instead have healthier options. Air popped popcorn with spray and popcorn seasoning is a filling high fiber snack. Almonds, peanut butter with celery or an apple, vanilla yogurt, and frozen berries also make healthy snacks.

6. Have small desserts. You don't have to live the rest of your life without eating the yummy stuff. I have some chocolate every day, but only 150 calories or less. Ice cream is available in low-fat, low-sugar options that are still tasty. Do allow yourself to indulge in dessert, but do so in moderation.

You don't have to make drastic changes in your life to lose weight. Simple things such as swapping high calorie drinks and foods for lower-calorie, healthier alternatives, playing with the kids, and paying attention to portion sizes can make a big difference.
