The Discount Wedding Gowns Really Worth The Price?

By Jason Myers

A bride asked me recently what the catch was with purchasing discounted wedding gowns online. "It all sounds too good to be true" were her words. Initially I was surprised that she thought there was a catch then I realised that being in the business for years I was taking my own familiarity for granted. Once I explained the pricing process she gave me a rye smile and said "So I really can get a bargain online without compromising on quality". Talking to her reminded me that buying a wedding dress is, for most brides, a fresh experience and probably there are a lot more more brides who just needed to be provided a little insider information to understand the fantastic price cuts they can have on the internet. Here is a normal overview of how the High Street puts a price their gowns.

The maker produces the dresses normally in a place where labour costs are relatively low; China, India etc. They market the gowns to distributors in the USA Europe or Australia who then put their label on the gowns. Each Label wholesaler, you remember the names, then increae the cost and distribute the dresses to their selected high street stores with recommended retail price rules. They do not wish to make competition between their stores so price cutting is frond upon.

The High Street then increases the price to the suggested retail price to cover their costs and earn a profit. There is nothing wrong with any of that; it's the way business works. So how come internet retailers can discount their wedding dresses so much?

There are a couple of areas where internet distributors can make you huge discounts. Primarily they can cut out the middleman and buy straight from the maker; the down side to this is that you don't get a brand to boast about. The second discount comes from the fact that online overheads are really cheap as with running and staffing a high street store.

There is another and not fairly so obvious saving which is created from shipping and handling costs. Online gowns may only be transported one time from the manufacturer directly to your home as compared to a High Street gown is transported two or three times before you receive it.
