4 Things You Must Know Before You Buy Your First Baby Sleeping Bag
Choosing a baby sleeping bag can be very overwhelming for first time parents. This article is going to overview some basic things you need to look for and be aware of when you are going to purchase your first baby sleeping bag.
Children are sensitive to different things. Fabrics can be one of them. It is important to choose a material that your child does not have an allergic reaction to. Natural fabrics like merino wool are known to be safe for all types of skin types. Not only is it safe for all skin types it also absorbs 35% of its weight in moisture. Right behind it is cotton. The only negative thing about merino wool is its price and that is why most people choose the cotton option.
Zippers come in all different shapes and sizes. It is important for you to decide what kind of zipper you want. Do you want one that zips down the front center? Do you want one that zips diagonal so the whole baby sleeping bag opens up? They also make some that zip open on the side. It is always handy to have a zipper that zips from the bottom and the top so it is easy to change your baby's diaper during the night without walking him. Zipper locks are handy to have as well so your baby cannot mess with the zipper during the night.
Pay attention to the size, and just don't look at the tag but see how your baby actually fits in the sleep bag. You want to make sure your baby's head does not slip down into the bag pass the shoulder straps, and you also want to make sure that your little one has plenty of room to move his legs in the bottom of the bag. The jury is still out on if newborns can sleep in a baby sleep sack. I am going to wait till my baby is three months old before I put him in a sleep sack even though manufactures make baby sleeping bags for newborns. That is just my personal preference.
Most sleep sacks you get at garage sales and even see at your local department store have sleeves. You may need to purchase your baby sleeping bag online in order to get one without sleeves. Using a sleeveless bag is said to have better circulation properties than a sleeved bag. Circulation is important because you don't want your baby to get too hot during the night and wake up all sweaty.
In summary, the baby sleep sack has many good things going for it. It helps keep your baby warm all throughout the night, hopefully keeping him asleep and helping you get a good nights sleep.
