What Does A Power Dialer Do?

By Germain Jackson
Nov 7, 2009
A power dialer can increase the number of numbers dialed by an inside sales department by as much as four times over manual dialing! These telephony tools are designed to help sales reps make up to three hundred dials in a day (though some companies report having reps exceeding 350 dials.)

Power dialers load lists of leads or contacts, and then call them one at a time. The rep using such a dialer will hear the phone ring as the system calls each phone number. This is more useful than simple click-to-dial technology. The entire process is optimized by the dialer, which automates many of the mundane sales tasks. Click-to-dial technology, on the other hand, rarely serves to increase productivity. It is merely a convenience.

The power dialer starts by making two telephone calls. It places a call to the sales rep first before it dials the sales lead. The dialer then connects the two. As long as the sales representative remains on the line dialer keeps the rep connected to the system and immediately places another call. If a call is not made for a while, the power dialer will disconnect the sales rep. When the next call is placed the sales rep is called by the power dialer again to reconnect to the system.

Power dialer technology provides many benefits.

An obvious benefit is the increase in sales and leads that can be generated by automating the dialing process. Many power dialer users report that they are able to accomplish in two work hours what it had taken them a full work day to complete by dialing manually. The power dialer also increases sales by giving each lead individualized attention, and is especially suited for complex B2B sales.

Power dialers also increase the quality of the voice messages. Pre-recorded messages are left by the power dialer in the sales reps own voice. These messages can be scripted to improve conversion instead of being ad-libbed. The power dialer saves time for the sales rep by leaving the voicemail automatically while the rep moves on to another lead.

Not only does a power dialer leave voicemail automatically, but it can also send and email or faxes with a single mouse click while the sales rep is still on the line with their contact, saving even more time. These messages are likewise sent from a message bank. By standardizing a dialing and messaging approach the chances of a successful sale increases for each dial and quality control can be assured.

The telephony solutions that a power dialer offers streamline how a remote sales department works. With such a boost in productivity, a power dialer easily pays for itself.
