Understanding The Differences Between Airsoft Guns

By Anthony Carter
Nov 8, 2009
There are many different brands and types of airsoft guns out there. If you are considering buying one of these Airsoft guns for yourself or your teenager, you need to know what the differences are and which kind of gun is appropriate for your purpose. It can be tempting just to buy the cheapest gun available, but this may not get you the appropriate equipment for what you want to do.

Beginning gun enthusiasts may need one-on-one training with an instructor. For this purpose, you should purchase a gun that reloads quickly. Spring loading guns are usually your best option here. In order to reload these guns, you simply push the slide backwards and cock the gun. The quick reload time allows you to efficiently train with an instructor, and most novices purchase these types of guns.

If you are mainly going to use your airsoft guns in games or competitions, fast reload times won't be enough. You'll need to be able to shoot the gun as quickly as you reload it. Your choices in this scenario are gas-powered or electric-powered guns.

These guns have similar capabilities; however, they may function differently.

In warm climates, gas guns work well, because the heat keeps the gas motor usable. However, in colder temperatures, the gas may freeze or otherwise not react properly, causing the gun to misfire or not fire at all. Electric guns do not have this problem; in fact, they were invented in response to the problems with gas guns.

When buying a gun, you have to think about several other things other than its design and purpose. You should consider how long you will be using the gun for; cheap guns are made out of plastic and break more easily than metal guns. It can be expensive to get a gun repaired, so if you are looking for something for long-term use you should go with something durable.

In addition to the type of gun and its purpose, you need to consider several other factors. First, think about how long the gun will last. Some cheaper guns are made out of plastic rather than metal, making them more prone to breakdowns. Repairs can be expensive, so you need to think about this issue prior to purchasing the gun. You should also think about accessories that you may need or want, such as safety goggles and knee pads. The cost of these accessories will add to the total price of the gun. Finally, you should think about safety. Some guns can fire pellets very quickly. You may think this is what you want in a gaming situation; however, the faster the gun fires, the more risk there is of serious injury should you or someone else get hit by a stray pellet.

Airsoft guns are not to be taken lightly. Although used for fun, they are weapons, and can cause serious injury if used incorrectly. Before purchasing an airsoft gun, you should research different guns and be clear on what features you need and how you are planning to use the gun.
