Coach Singletary's Early Impact for the San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers are a young team with lots of upside. Head coach Mike Singletary and his "I want winners" mentality seems to be working.
The 49ers had a disappointing season in 08' but improved towards the end of the season. While Steve Young, Jerry Rice, Joe Montana are long gone from the 49ers - the players the 49ers do have are RB Frank Gore, TE Vernon Davis, LB Patrick Willis, and QB Shaun Hill. They might not be the most talented group of players to ever play for the 49ers, rest assure, Coach Singletary will maximize his players and make sure they play up to their potential.
The 49ers are in the same division as the Arizona Cardinals - the reigning NFC West champs. The Cardinals haven't played like Super Bowl NFC representatives as of yet.
The more impressive of the two victories was San Francisco's week one win over the Arizona Cardinals, in Arizona of all places. A 20-16 win shut down the defending NFC champions, surprising many football fans around the country.
The glory days of the 49ers might be gone but they are in the process of rebuilding another Super Bowl type team. This year might not be their Super Bowl season, in a couple years the 49ers could raise the Vince Lombardi trophy for their 6th time and the teams first since 1995.
RB Frank Gore is one of the best running backs in the NFL. Gores' best season was in 06' when Gore started every game, ran for over 1.600 yards and scored 8 touchdowns.
Coach Singletary was a great defensive player in his day for the Chicago Bears or "Monsters of the Midway". If he can instill the knowledge to his defense and create and terrifying defense that resembles the great Chicago Bears defenses of the 1980s - the 49ers will be a contender for years.
Is this just one of those fluke starts that we see a few teams pull off each year, or are the San Francisco 49ers the real deal in 2009?
