Swine Flu Epidemic-8 Most dangerous Symptoms That You Should Act On
Everybody knows that swine flu has now spread beyond its origins in Mexico and become a worldwide problem. It is dangerous and contagious though the risk to life may have been overestimated
The term "swine flu" refers to a strain of influenza that is endemic in pigs and has passed to man. It has then spread amongst the human population and is a major cause of concern for many. There are plans for a vaccine that are well on the way and a vaccine should become generally available soon. However it is not known how effective the vaccine will be as the flu virus, like many others, mutates or changes its form quite easily, which can render a vaccine ineffective. There are also some concerns as to the safety of the vaccine itself.
A vaccine is imminent but there are doubts as to how effective it will be since the virus can keep on mutating and therefore be difficult to combat It seems as though viruses have a natural tendency to survive by altering their DNA structure and making them difficult to pin down.
What are the symptoms that you don't need to worry about? They are the normal symptoms that most people will recognise when they get flu, viz.: fever, cough, sneezing and sore throat, headache, muscle aches and chills. Most people only suffer minor symptoms and make a full recovery within one to two weeks.
Fever Sore throat Coughing Headache Muscle and joint pains General weakness
The symptoms you should worry about are as follows: If children experience the following symptoms then urgent medical attention should be sought: breathing difficulties, dehydration, bluish or greyish skin colour, continuous vomiting, severe fatigue, inability to interact, severe cough, or high fever. If adults experience the following symptoms then urgent medical treatment is required: high fever, severe cough, breathing difficulties, dehydration, continuous vomiting, persistent dizziness, confusion, chest or abdominal pain.
In an adult the following symptoms require immediate medical attention: High fever Severe cough Breathing difficulties Dehydration Continuous vomiting Persistent dizziness Confusion Chest or abdominal pain
If for any reason your immune system is not up to scratch you can be more vulnerable to swine flu and should take extra precautions to try to avoid being exposed to it. Don't go out into public places or socialise unnecessarily for the time being. Your immunity could be compromised if you suffer from Aids, have an organ transplant, or are undergoing treatment for cancer. One last point is that the very young are at particular risk as their immune systems have not yet developed, and to a lesser extent so are the elderly since immunity fades a little as we get older.
