ATV Tires-The Name of Quality!
It is essential for drivers to realize the importance of the right tires for their ATVs. Tires that suit your vehicle perfectly make sure that you get the best drive you possibly can. Thus, if the vehicle is to be driven through rocky terrain, tires with higher ply ratings should be preferred. This decreases the chances of a puncture. The stars that are imprinted on the side wall of the tire give the ply rating for the tire. As each star represents a rating of 2 ply thence, a tire with three stars would be having a rating of 6 ply and would make a good choice for heavy use.
When it comes to air pressure used in the tires, it is more sensible to use the air pressure as recommended by the tire manufacturer instead of running the tires on the maximum air pressure that is given on the sidewall. The right air pressure allows your vehicle to achieve a better mileage. Air loss in tire can be caused due to punctures, impact damage on the sidewalls and cracks on the tread. It may also be caused by leakage in the valve stem and the valve core. This leakage can be due to an obsolete or damaged valve stem of a slackened valve core.
The general format through which most of the ATV tires are sized is: AT25 x 10-12. 'R' may be used instead of the dash to mark the radial construction. The overall diameter is given by the first number whereas the second number gives the section width of the tire. The third number gives the wheel diameter. Measurements are done in inches. However, it must be kept in mind that these numbers are approximations and the individual tire sizes may differ.
To save the tires from premature wear and tear and sidewall cracking, the air pressure must be kept within optimal limits. Visual inspections must be carried out regularly to remove any foreign body from the tire tread. The appropriate measures would allow your ATV tires to give a high class performance while letting them last longer.
