What Should I do When I Fail

Aug 17, 2007
Failure is painful. Nobody wants to fail. You are rejected, mocked or reprimanded by the people surround you when you fail. You feel alone and have no where to go. You don't know what to do and do not want to do anything. You wonder how you can pass this tough time to get back what you have lost from your failure. Day by day, you just hope and wish things to be better. The sad truth is that you will not be better by wishing. You need to get trough your tough time by yourself. In this article, we will talk about what to do when we fail on doing something.

The definitions of failure according to Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English are "lack of success and act of failing", "things that fail", "the non-performance or non-production of something" and "inability of a business to continue especially through lack of money". These are also common definitions people use when they fail. Do you notice that all definitions here are negative? This is one of the reasons most people are scared of failure. As a result, many give up so easily even before they start. I would like to propose some tips to do when you fail. The tips include:

1. Understand that definition on anything depends on us.
Positive or negative definition is given by us. Not a dictionary. We have our own right to decide what interpretation to use when a certain circumstance occurs. Nobody can mess with the process if you do not let him in. All of us can learn you design our own meaning of failure and make use of it. For example, Tony Robbins suggested that we do not use the word "failure" at all. Instead, we use the word "feedback" to replace it every time it happens. Once failure is not in your vocabulary, you will not suffer that much. And you will be willing to continue pursuing what you need to do.

2. We fail because we do something.
There is nothing wrong about doing something toward your goal. On the contrary, not doing anything is one of the most common mistakes that people have. You need to understand that when you do something, you either get what you want or get feedback. When you get feedback, you just review your approach and result. You can decide if you want to change your approach and continue to do until you achieve what you want.

3. If we continue to do, failure will be changed to success.
We need to understand that failure is a temporary event happens in our life. Everybody have it once in a while and it is a very common event. We can change failure to success simply by just continue doing what is required to do. Success is measured by the result you get. If what we want has been achieved by other human beings, it is also possible for us to get the result if we persist long enough. The great inventors also persist although what they want to achieve have not been conquered before. They understand this principle therefore they are so successful.

4. We have faith in ourselves.
One of the most important beliefs we needs is that we are capable in doing and achieving anything we want. We come here in the world with some purpose. Our duty is to find out what it is and put our heart into pursuing it. The good result will be on our side if we determine to get the good deed out of ourselves and contribute to others as much as we can. You need to wholeheartedly believe in yourself to get out of failure. Believe that you can be more than where you are now will push you through the ladder of success.

One of the ways to increase your faith is to visualize. Make visualization by seeing yourself achieve what you want as if it is happening in front of you. See it and feel it daily. The clearer your visualization is, the more chance you will get the result according to the law of attraction. The law said your subconscious mind can attract the circumstances and attributes favorable to your goal achievement if you communicate well with it. Visualization is a way to communicate with your subconscious mind. You may want to add some background audio to accelerate your attraction. Attraction accelerator can be one of your choices if you decide to find one.

Failure is common in human being's life. It is however challenging to get through the failure without the real understanding of its nature. In this article, we talk about what to do when you fail.
