Five Defenses Why You Must Go To Church

By Joseph Atta-Fynn

You went to church against your will and you vowed that once you grew up, you'd never go back to church. Your mother never forgave you and prayed for your Salvation right to her grave. Is it guilt that's tugging at your heart or is the Good Lord really after your mortal soul? Here are five good reasons why you might want to darken the door of your neighborhood church.

Acceptance of death: Jesus Christ guarantees a seat in heaven to all who believe in Him. Once we hit middle age and time accelerates, it's comforting to know that nothing but love awaits us on the other side. Our relatives will greet us with open arms and we will feel no pain. Churches teach that death is not the end, but the beginning.

Getting through grief: A relative dies of cancer. Your wife leaves you with a mountain of debt. You lose your job. The church offers support in the form of prayer, financial assistance and of course, words of encouragement and refreshment straight from the world's best selling book - the Holy Bible. We search for comfort in the arms of our Father in heaven.

Seek and ye shall find: Rejecting the God of their parents and the doctrines of their parent's church, rebellious 20-somethings often launch their own spiritual journey. Often, they find that the truth they're seeking was right under the nose, or their knees, all the time. They return to the comfort and care of a loving congregation, where the prayer is genuine, the message uplifting and the God, truly loving.

Faith can be fun: Clapping is now allowed in most churches. Organ music and traditional services are being replaced by dancing in the aisles and worship bands rocking out behind the altar. Music is attracting droves of people back to church. The joy of worshipping God with uplifting music and meaningful lyrics is bringing people into church again.

Faith is part of us: As very impressionable children, sitting on our parent's lap in church, we were like little sponges soaking up the word of God. We may have rejected everyone once we grew up, but truth sticks with you. With maturity comes the realization that our parents were pretty smart people, and taking us to church was an act of love. The roots of faith are deep within us. Going back to church is the water and nourishment we need to grow.
