How To Take A New Product Or Service To Market In Four Simple Steps
There are thousands of services and products that are introduced to the public every year. Getting these products recognition by Volusion marketing is one way that has proven successful. Volusion is the use of the world wide web to give exposure and promotions. While this method is widely recognized as being a superb choice for product introduction, there are four other ways that are just as beneficial. These forms of product explanation and introduction are through home mailers, in-store sampling, event promotions and couponing.
Home mailers are when a company uses the US Postal Service to deliver new product samples to people's homes. These samples are generally one serving size or just enough product for a small trial. They are sent in an envelope, tube, box or attached on the plastic bags covering Sunday newspapers. A great example of this type of mailer was done by a new casino in Mississippi after construction was complete. They sent a postcard mailer to many homes in the Cincinnati area whose names they received from lists generated by other casinos' frequent player cards. On this postcard was a promotion that entailed round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations and dinner for 2 in their restaurant. This program sold out very quickly. Many of the people who participated have returned to this casino for additional paid vacations, thus making the original promotion financially successful.
In-store sampling is a great way for companies to introduce new food and beverage products to consumers. For instance, every weekend in Sam's Club there are 8-10 different items being distributed to the public for them to taste and drink. Often times they will also distribute coupons to people as well. Because of the bulk quantities, people won't usually buy a new food item at Sam's without tasting it first. This in-store sampling allows the consumer and/or their family members to have one bite of a new item to see if they like it. If they do, generally some will purchase this item right away. This impulse buy is the initial goal of sampling. Once the consumer gets the product home, they will determine if this is something they will keep stocked in their homes every day.
Event promotions are when companies introduce their products or services to the general public at big city functions. They will do hand-to-hand sampling, distribute coupons and have large signage with pictures and text describing their products. If it is food, they could also sell single servings to the public during the event. This gives companies the chance to have a ton of exposure over a one or two day period of time, and hopefully gain new permanent customers in the process.
Lastly, couponing in the Sunday newspaper and in magazines has proven to be an very beneficial way to get consumers to try new products and become repeat customers. By giving money off a product, a person is likely to switch brands, test new products or try new foods. These trials could net gaining more loyal customers. It's the money enticement that begins this new product/consumer relationship.
