Using Massage As An Alternative Medicine

Aug 18, 2007
When people walk through Malls they are presented with opportunities to begin using massage as an alternative medicine therapy. There are mechanical massage machines in the small recesses found in malls, airports and spas that perform the traditional Shiatsu movements that relieve pain and help to improve the flow of energy through several areas of the body.

Shiatsu is a massage technique that is traditionally Chinese but has been adapted by many countries who are using massage as an alternative medicine therapy. The Chinese have relied on this type of alternative medicine to treat patients for over 4,000 years. The rest of the world chose drugs over massage therapy but the Chinese still include it in their treatment plans.

Many people began using massage as an alternative medicine when they learned that it had a calming affect on the body. Some people have debilitating diseases that have destroyed their nervous system, and these patients began using massage as an alternative medicine treatment to give their body some relief from the shaking and body spasms that their system had to endure everyday.

Some people began using massage as an alternative medicine because it was trendy. An aromatherapy massage seemed to change peoples mood through the use of fragrance, so people started using massage as an alternative medicine because they liked the way the oils made their skin feel and the way the fragranced enhanced their ability to remember and feel emotion.

Some people suffer from bipolar disorders and begin using massage as an alternative medicine to come to grips with the various changes in personality and the extreme mood swings that are typical of many bipolar patients. The therapists concentrate on using massage techniques that stimulate the energies that surround the body. After treatments, bipolar patients have a sense of well-being and have a surge of energy throughout their bodies that is once again balanced.

Many of the Chinese massage therapists have known for years that there are pressure points in the body that are directly connected with a body part. They have been using massage as an alternative medicine that can be focused on one extremity that is ailing, and using a massage practice to cure that one area in a matter of minutes. Some people have been able pinch a nerve in the hand and stop a headache in its tracks.

Many people have been using massage as an alternative medicine because it was relatively easy to do and required very little equipment. Most massage techniques can be accomplished by simply applying pressure on the body with a finger and the knuckle of a thumb. The deep kneading effect used in massage has been proven to be very therapeutic for patients that are bedridden because it also increases circulation in the body.
