Costa Rica Surfing Vacation
If you are crazy about diving into the water with your surf board than you should definitely visit Costa Rica. The country is packed with a number of beaches that offer the best sun and sand combination to the locals and the international visitors from all over the globe. Costa Rica is well known for the world surfing championships that happen here every year. Interestingly, the surfing championship that happened in the year 2009 was considered as the best surfing championship ever because more than 35 countries participated in the event and people from all parts of the world has gathered here to see this event live. If you are in Costa Rica and looking for places where you can surf than you can checkout the local map and that should show you some of the beaches that are the best places to surf in Costa Rica. Ollie's Point also known as Potrero Grande is one of the best places in the northern side of Costa Rica which is excellent for surfing because it has a high tide that allows surfers to get their poses and jumps. The place is very close to Nicaragua and there is no beach that you can access so if you are moving to Ollie's Point than you have to take a boat from Playa del Coco and that will take you to Ollie's Point. On the south of Ollie's Point is Witch Rock which is another great destination for surfing in Costa Rica. The place is well known for fast hollow rights and has some of the best sceneries that you can get while you are surfing. You will find most of the surfers here during December to March as offshore winds are more during these months that lead to better high tide and bigger waves. Similarly there are no beaches here as well so you can take a boat from Playa del Coco or if you have a car you can drive through the Santa Rosa National Park. Since there are no hotels around make sure that you carry enough food when you are halting at Liberia as most surfers do that if they are halting for a day at the Witch Rock. One of the best places to surf in Costa Rica is Pavones, where surfers can ride almost ¾ mile long if there is a good wave coming up. You will find many surfers coming here during the month of April and the season continues till November making Pavones the most popular surfing place in Costa Rica. The tides here are easy to ride but surfers are suggested that they never ride on low tides as there are cobblestones under the water. There are many hotels and cabinas available near Pavones so you can relax and enjoy your surfing and later have a nice bath and a meal when you want to relax and rejuvenate. Apart from these locations you can also go ahead and surf at locations like Playa Grande, Playa Negra, Boca Barranca, Mal Pais, Hermosa, Dominical and Puerto Viejo.
