The official name of this herbal home remedy is known as Melissa officinalis. It is a name that is derived due to the link between the bees and lemon balm. Lemon balm is described as a cold, dry, slightly bitter, and sour herbal home remedy by traditional herbalists. It contains many different substances, including polyphenols, tannins, flavonoids, volatile oils, and rosmarinic acid. Herbalists like using the essential oils made from its leaves. Hence, any time when you feel the need to calm down and feel the heat getting into you, drink a cup of lemon balm tea. For great healing benefits, harvesting this herb should be done right before flowering.

To prepare it as a herbal home remedy, you have several options: make a compress, a hot tea infusion, tincture, ointment, or an infused oil. You can consume the lemon balm tea for the relief of indigestion, nausea, nervous exhaustion, and depression. A compress can help with painful swelling or gout. You can also use the lemon balm in a massage oil as well. Simply dilute its essential oil with almond or olive oil and then rub it onto your chest for pain relief.
