Sep 3, 2007
Texas is a large state with many wonderful places to make a home, but if you want to enjoy a resort-style world while still being fairly close to a major city, you should start your home search in Galveston County. There are a number of top homes for sale in Galveston County, such as League City, Galveston, and Tiki Island, so you should be able to find the house you want without trouble. But what makes Galveston County luxury homes so luxurious?

First, the top homes for sale in Galveston County start with the neighborhood. It doesn't matter if the home is large with all of the things you want in a place to live-if the neighborhood is run-down, dangerous, or otherwise undesirable, you probably won't like living there. When looking at the neighborhood, there are a number of things to consider. For example, if you have children, your first priority may be finding the best schools in Galveston County. You may also want parts and safe streets. Alternatively, a good neighborhood for you might mean bars, dance clubs, movie theatres, and lot of other things to do.

To be clued in as to the neighborhood, look at the other homes in this location in Galveston County. Luxury homes that are large with big front yards and personal driveways will give you the hint that the neighborhood is home to families not unlike yourself. However, if your potential home was recently built or renovated and the rest of the homes in the neighborhood look a bit run down, you may not be happy in the area. Of course, different price tags come with the different communities, and you can find everything from gated neighborhoods to trailer parks in Galveston County, so keep looking until you find the location that is right for you.

Second to neighborhood when looking for the top homes for sale in Galveston County is the house itself. The best idea is to make two lists: one of features you need and one of features you want. The features you need will include things that you must have in order to purchase the house. This can include true needs such as wheelchair access, but will also include things that you feel are 100% necessary to buy a house. For example, if you won't consider a home that doesn't have a pool, but that on your "needs" list. Common things found on the "needs" list include minimum number of bedrooms, minimum number of bathrooms, off-street parking, short commute to work, and so forth.

The second list should include things that you want. As you start to visit the top places to live in Galveston County to look at homes for sale, you may want to add to your list. Commonly found on this list can include: a front porch, a large backyard, a back patio, a garage, large amounts of storage space in an attic or basement, an extra room to create a home office or playroom, lots of kitchen counter space, an extra bathroom, a pool house, and so forth. Try to number these in order of importance and as you look at homes mark which features it does and does not have. This can help you make an ultimate decision.

If you do not like any of the homes for sale in the top places to live in Galveston County, you can also try building your own house. This option will be slightly more expensive, but you'll be able to design it exactly how you want it. Galveston County luxury home builders are fairly easy to find, and hiring one can help you get all of the features you want in your new home. If you decide to build, make sure that you check with the local homeowner's association about specific community rules and regulations. Actually, this is a good step whether you're building or buying.

Remember, the top homes for sale in Galveston County may or may not fit you and your lifestyle. Don't be afraid to visit homes and neighborhoods that you might at first not believe to be right for you-you may be pleasantly surprised! Never give up the house hunt until you fall in love with a place because, after all, you'll have to call that house home for a number of years!
