Marketing Your Medical Transcription Home Business

Sep 5, 2007
Prior to your medical transcription marketing it is important to have prepared your material to present and to be confident with your knowledge in the material. When interviewing with health care providers or transcription companies you need to be prepared to market your business in a very professional way and to present your qualifications with complete confidence in your ability to provide good service to meet their needs.

You will need to develop quality content that you feel comfortable presenting, then you can start researching medical facilities in your area that you can contact. Stay open-minded and contact all hospitals, urgent care clinics, chiropractors, psychiatrists and any other health care provider that sees patients. Any place that sees patients can use the services of a medical transcriptionist.

Once you have made a list you can either send your resume to the individual provider or directly to the office manager. In many cases it is the office manager that makes the decision to hire transcriptionists. The best way to personalize your material and assure yourself of a follow-up call is to call ahead and get the office manager's name. They will be more likely to respond to a personal request.

Take your time writing a good resume. Your resume needs to be as professional as possible as this plays a major role in introducing you to future clients. If you do not think you can do a good job of writing your resume, you can hire a professional to do it.

Get some business cards printed that are professional and tastefully done. You can include your email address on your cards but it would be best to have a separate email address for your business. Try to get an email name that reflects your business as much as possible. You can also get a medical logo to put on your business cards and letterhead.

Networking is another way to market your business. This could simply be informing your friends and family of your new business. The more people that know you are starting a business, the better chance you will have to get it going. One of your contacts may know someone in the medical field that can get you started.

Placing ads in the newspaper is another good marketing technique. By placing a classified ad seeking clients to work for, you may very well be picked up by a hospital or clinic. This is one of the more expensive marketing methods, but it does give you an opportunity to reach more health care providers.

Having a good flier designed will help enhance your business image. Attach a business card to your fliers as more people tend to keep a business card than a flier. You can include the flier in your portfolio.

While these are some of the more common medical transcription marketing techniques, there are a number of other methods out there. Contacting transcription services listed in the phone book, calling each hospital and clinic, and networking through an MT forum are a few other ways to get your name out there. If you are just starting out, don't be afraid to try multiple marketing methods to advertise your new business.
