The Special Allure Of Mediterranean Decor

Oct 7, 2007
How to make your patio an attractive and fun room to use for entertaining. Adding the right furniture and accent pieces will achieve this.

Everyone enjoys relaxing on an outdoor patio to enjoy the fresh breezes and a bit of nature. Entertaining on an outdoor patio makes having friends and relatives over for a meal or a drink easy and relaxed. To add to this kind of relaxed pleasure, many people add interesting decorating features to their patios to make it even more special. No matter how small the area, you can find some lovely accent pieces that will add to your enjoyment of this outdoor room.

The most important element is probably the furniture you choose. When you are shopping for patio furniture, make sure you have the right measurements; you do not want the room to look too crowded or too sparse, and you want to make sure each piece will fit in properly. You also want to make sure you and your guests can move comfortably once the furniture is in place. If your primary reason for the patio is entertaining, people tend to move around a lot for conversation and to catch the breeze. Don't forget that some lovely pieces of patio furniture, such as a glider or a swing, take up extra room when in use that must be allowed for. The most popular materials for patio furniture are teak, iron and wicker. Make sure you choose patio furniture that will withstand the elements that they will be exposed to. Add colorful cushions to the patio furniture and you will have a bright and cheery room that everyone will enjoy.

The next item on your list for decorating your patio should be plants. You can choose either plants in standing pots or hanging, or a combination. They will add a great deal of elegance to your patio if they are in decorative pots, or some of the new interesting stands and hangers. Create balance by placing plants at different heights and spacing. Make sure you choose plants that will work well with the amount of light you have on the patio. Each plant comes with a little guide stick that will tell you how much or how little light it prefers, and so you have to know if it will suit its new surroundings. Containers such as this are a great way to start gardening, since it is easier to care for plants in containers. A lovely arrangement may be small herb garden in an attractive pot.

Once you have these two main items, it is time to start adding some fun elements such as a gazing ball, little garden statues, and wind chimes. Even in a small space, you can find a few pieces that will make the space unique without crowding it. Stepping stones leading to the patio are an attractive feature, and a bird house and bird feeder will really bring nature to your doorstep.

By choosing the right furniture, plants and accessories, you can make your patio a special part of your home that everyone will enjoy spending time in.
