A Medieval Game - Be a Prince

Oct 12, 2007
In the olden days, during the Renaissance, Florence was the place to be in. If you were a rich businessman, then your strategy was to decide the fate of Florence. In this game, you have to compete with other players and the winner who makes their city the richest wins the game.

So what is this game all about? And how do we make the strategies to play it?

May be a little history in here! This game was invented by two Germans in the year 2000. The Kramer and Ulrich pair that made a number of cartoons in German designed this interesting game to educate the children. Designed to accommodate three to five children, this game was later adopted by the English by Rio Grande. The game has gone through a number of evolutional modifications before becoming what it is today!

The strategy of the game is to make a city rich. How is that done? By earning money, is possibly one of the answers. The other is by constructing buildings, having intelligent 'guys', the jesters. You can also make landscapes and of course have lots of 'freedom'. It is Renaissance time, remember! There is always an importance to art and architecture and freedom, of course. All these are done by everyone of the players. The winner is, of course the guy or gal who does the maximum and becomes the leading Princes of Florence!

The game starts with bidding. Each one of the player is given some money tokens and playing board. The playing board is every player's city. The player needs to build the player board. The player is also given some of these special cards that tells you what you own. It could be some of the jesters or the buildings or the landscapes. Now, with this on the player board, the player goes bidding.

There are also other rules. A person can win an auction only once in a round. And similarly, only once in a round can he also action any of his holdings. Combined with these rules, it makes the entire game more challenging to play and more interesting.

There could also be common properties which can go for bidding. You and other players will all bid for the property. It will go on increasing in the round and who ever wins the bid will take the piece too. You will put this on your playing board. As you go an adding to the playing board, your 'city' becomes better built! You can also sell off what you built to gain money. Well, it is trading all along and who ever gets the maximum number of buildings at the end of two hours of game will be the winner!

Quite an interesting strategy game really! Something that triggers the thought and intelligence of the young minds! This game is today made for two to five players and is quite comfortable for most of the ages.

What makes the game more interesting is that you can also earn prestige as you grow. Every one of the building that you 'construct' and every one of the landscape that put on to your board would earn you prestige.

Go on and get one for your kids today!
