Avoid Foot Pain And Discomfort - How To Find Just The Right Fit For Your Shoes

Oct 12, 2007
Whenever you go shoe shopping, can you simply just pick out a shoe in your size, check out the price and style, and then turn around and head for the sales counter? No way will this tactic provide you with a comfortable shoe and proper fit every single time. Well, how is it then that you can select the right shoe for you?

Shoes do not have a standard size. The actual size of a shoe labeled 8 wide in one brand will not fit the same as a shoe labeled 8 wide in a different brand. This is why people typically vary a half of a size from shoe to shoe.

Trying on shoes before purchasing them is the very best way to determine if they will fit you properly. Whenever possible, physically try on several shoes in various brands and styles to determine what is most comfortable for you. Once you find a brand that works well for you, consider coming back to that specific brand for your next pair of shoes. This may save you time during the hunt for the right pair of shoes.

Some helpful tips for finding the right size shoe is in regards to trends about the sizing of shoes. Dress shoes typically run smaller than jogging shoes. High heels and bowling shoes typically run a half size smaller than regular street shoes.

Shoes are available in various widths. Each brand, again, is different. In one variety of shoe, you may require a wide width variety. Another type of shoe may be a different story. This is why trying on shoes is so important.

Shop for shoes later in the day. By the end of the day, your feet may have swollen slightly due to the activities of your day and stress on your feet. You may think this sounds like an unpleasant situation for trying on new shoes, but in reality, this is the best way to determine if the new shoes will fit comfortably at the end of a long day.

Although the public typically tries on just the right shoe and leaves the left shoe in the box, you will want to stray from this pattern. Place both of your feet in the shoes and take them for a test walk. Pace the aisles of the shoe store for a few minutes before making your final decision.

Bring socks or knee highs with you when you shop for shoes. Don't expect to try on a pair of sneakers barefoot to determine how they will feel on your foot with a thick pair of socks. This can be deceiving.

Know that some shoes will stretch after wear. Do not purchase a shoe with the intent that it will stretch to fit your feet properly. You may luck out on occasion with this, but as a rule of thumb, you will be disappointed. Instead, try a larger size, different width, or completely new style of shoe.

Trying on several shoes Is the best way to find just what you are looking for in a shoe. Take a stroll through the store in your prospective new shoes at the end of the day to ensure comfort. With a little time and effort, you will find shoes with just the right fit.
