You Have To Compare Canon Cameras First

Nov 1, 2007
We are all well aware that Canon cameras are well respected around the world. Every photographer will tell you that he currently owns a Canon camera or at least has owned one in the past. So yes there is no need for arguing about quality or if it will meet your expectations. The question is this. Which Canon camera should I buy and where should I buy it.

The only reason why I'm focussing on Canon cameras is because I know it the best. The fact is the principles in this article count for any camera brand.

Already the South African web is packed with camera suppliers selling in Rand currency. So many Americans are currently buying there stock from these South African, Australian and Chinese suppliers simply because they are so cheap. It's a good idea to start looking at suppliers from other countries as well. We all know that the internet enables us to buy anywhere.

The first thing most amateur camera buyers do is to focus on the price. The cheaper the camera is the quality just goes down and down, or so they think. Thats not always the case. You have to ask yourself, what will I like to do with this camera? Do you want to take pictures of the moon and cars driving at 200 mph past you or do you want to take photos of your family and your holiday in Africa. Even the cheapest Canon digital camera with optical zoom today can take the unbelievable pictures of lions 5 miles away. This fact doesn't apply to Canon cameras alone but also brands like Kodak, Sony and Panasonic.

The other very important fact is that you need to do some homework as to where you will buy the camera from. You will be amazed when you see the price differences from different suppliers for the same camera. To do this you can search for Canon cameras on Google and visit each site listed on the first 2 pages. This will take some time so be patient, it's worth it.

The other also effective way is to make use of price comparison websites like MadShop.co.za, Shopzilla.com and Shopping.com. They take all the cameras from different suppliers and compare them to one another. This way you can easily see why certain cameras are more expensive than other and you can also see which supplier is asking what price. By using these websites it is also easy to see why you are paying more for certain cameras. Then you will quickly notice that some things you just dont need.

Here is an indication of what kind of Canon camera you should buy. For people who would like to hold on to memories or take good quality photos of your vacation, look at the Canon Ultra-Compact camera range and also the Canon Digital camera range. The Canon Ultra-Compact camera range is a tiny camera that is easy to carry around all day long and still have 3 to 5 megapixels. The Canon Digital camera range is a bit larger but still small enough for a loose pocket or purse. Highest rated models in the compact category include the PowerShot A400, A510, A520, S60 and S70 digital cameras. If you are not running a business based on photography you dont need more than this.

For people who are photographers or high enthusiasts you should start looking at the Mid-Sized Enthusiast category. The mid-sized category adds photo enthusiast controls such as high powered zooms, advanced metering and exposure control. Consumer favorites in this category are the Canon PowerShot G6, Pro1, S2 IS, and S70 cameras.

For truly professional high flying photographers you are allowed to start looking at the Canon Digital SLR cameras. These cameras have interchangeable lenses. The pros use these. The most popular ones in this category are the EOS 20D, EOS 300D Digital Rebel, EOS 350D Digital Rebel XT, EOS-1D Mark II Pro, and EOS-1Ds Mark II Pro.

Ok, now you should know what to look out for when you start looking for cameras. Remember that you don't have to buy the most expensive camera you can afford.
