Let's Welcome The Tie Tack Back With A Bang

Nov 2, 2007
Shunned for its conservative connotations, the tie tack is back. Young men are sporting that little gold ring or pin on their ties and are making a strong fashion statement - we are hip, cool, and funky but no punk collagists.

Extreme fashion?

Not really. If your young man is sporting a new look, be glad. He is finally using a tie and a tie tack! After snubbing the tie and its perennial partner, guys are showing off a different kind of cool - real cool.

This hip fashion evokes images of young men in crew cut, slack and spiffy ties, and driving their Dad's Oldsmobile. Grandmas will love this "reincarnation" of the 50s when life was less hectic and uncomplicated, but with a big difference.

Moms, wives, and girlfriends should be glad their guys are going for the tie instead of the hosiery that's making France's leading hosiery makers busy. So they shouldn't be hollering and pulling their hair if their guy is bringing home lots of dirty finds from the trash bins for his punk collage.

Your ties, your taste

But fashion is a fickle thing. For women, the X Frocks for spring 2008 is making titanic splashes on the fashion pages. In contrast, the return of the tie tack did not make a noisy comeback. It's not the tie tack really, but the guy who wears this and how he wears his ties. The fashion flock is gearing towards the bohemian look with urban polish.

There may be guys out there who detest wearing tie tacks, but they are entitled to their own predilections. Ties complete casual chic and a tie ring adds accent. Wouldn't you like girls looking at you and your cool tie pin? It's how you wear it that will do the trick.

Check out the latest men's fashion news and get more ideas about matching your tie accessories with your outfit. This is guaranteed to get you admiring glances from your female friends, but don't make the mistake of using a tie two days in a row.

Taking care of ties

Taking care of your expensive ties is no rocket science. To enjoy them longer have a drawer just for your ties. If your mom or girlfriend has a Tupperware organizer, ask if you can have it for your tie rings, bars, clips, and tacks.

In storing your ties, roll them into a ball so these won't lose their shape. As for your tie accessories, if you have the time, individually wrap the 18 karat tie pins, tacks, rings, and clips. Of course, keep these out of curious toddlers' reach.

Ties are delicate things and should be handled with care when putting on. You should also know how to take it off to preserve its shape. These shouldn't be thrown into drawers, forgotten until the next use.
