Tricks To Cleaning Up Sewage Water Damage In Your Yard

Nov 2, 2007
Sometimes it can happen so unexpectedly no matter how well we maintain our yards, everyone can be susceptible to sewage problems. This is defiantly one kind of water damage you do not ever want to have. It is one of the nastiest, smelliest, most unhealthy messes that you will ever have the unpleasantness to deal with.

Sewage can emerge in the cleanest of yards if there is a sudden sewer pipe to burst or come apart at a juncture from sewage back up, from a tree root, or from the corrosion of an old pipe. If you have a large yard you might not notice it visually right away, but it probably will not take long for you to smell the problem.

Sewage repair and clean up can get really expensive, really fast and the sooner it is dealt with the better. The first thing you should do is contact your home owner's insurance company. They will probably send someone out or advise you as what to do next. In most cases you will have to hire someone to fix the problem. In the meantime, keep children and pets away from the contaminated area.

Do not touch any of the contaminated area yourself. Sewage water is extremely hazardous and contains all sorts of health threatening germs and bacteria.

When you hire someone to fix the sewer problem in your yard, get estimates from several reputable companies that have good service histories. Always make sure before you hire someone to do the job, that both parties understand exactly what the repair and clean up will entail, how much it is going to cost and how long the job should take to be completed.

Get it in writing and never give payment in full until the job has been satisfactorily completed. Being licensed and insured is essential for anyone you hire.

Repairing any damage sewer lines is an important part of the job, but the clean up of the extremely toxic waste is just as important. Make sure this part of the job is done and stands up to the local ordinances concerning sewage clean up. If your sewage problem was caused by the city sewage system, they may be liable for the cost.

Using a septic line cleaner that can be flushed down your toilet is a good prevention for build up in your sewer lines, especially in older lines. These cleaning products are inexpensive and easy to use. They can be helpful to keep your sewer pipes clean, as clean as a sewer pipe can be anyway.
