Rock Climbing Basics

More and more people are getting enthusiastic about rock climbing and the sport is now gaining popularity and attracting thousands of sports enthusiasts. Rock climbing is categorized and each type has different features and methods. These activities are termed Mountaineering, Ice climbing, Bouldering, Indoor climbing and Rock climbing etc.

If you are adventurous enough and wish to climb a rock, but not sure about the techniques involved in rock climbing, then indoor climbing can be a better option for you. Indoor climbing is an easy way to learn various techniques involved in rock climbing under the guidance of experienced and professional climbers. These man made climbing walls are designed in such a way that they resemble the characteristics of the natural rock environment. This indoor climbing experience is really exciting and due to this many rock climbers don't even opt for the outdoors. Obviously there is no comparison to outdoor rock climbing and those who are adventurous and enjoy the thrill always choose outdoor rock climbing.

Various rock climbing opportunities are available for those who do venture outdoors. However, there is an initial approach that involves various aspects related to the rock you opt to climb. To start with, first you need to decide how to tackle and surmount the rock face horizontally or vertically. Secondly, ensure that rock chosen is solid and stable. Equally important are the weather conditions, so select locations where the weather is predictable.

Being adventurous is good but not at the cost of your life. Rock climbing can be a dangerous sport if safety precautions are not followed. So check if all your climbing equipment is in a good state. Most of the climbers prefer the less crowded areas and venture further in such terrain. But please note that in case of an emergency situation you need to get immediate help.

There is a common belief that most of the rock climbers are injured because of falling. Though it is a fact, but there are always rescue squads and the local authorities who step in on time. The media immediately covers these accidents. However, rock climbing is not associated only with falling. Other injuries also occur while climbing like damage to the hands, tendons, elbows and shoulders, due to straining and overuse. So to reduce these injuries, it is recommended that you exercise. A proper warm up and stretching out the body can help you tremendously to prevent such injuries.

You should wear the appropriate shoes for climbing. It should have a proper grip so as to prevent you from falling. Most of the climbers avoid wearing helmets, but they are must to prevent serious head injuries. Ensure that all the equipment like climbing ropes, webbing, carabiners and belay devices etc are in excellent condition before you plan to climb. These climbing basics can help you to avoid the accidents and make your climbing adventure safe.
